Career View

The Stanford Business School Alumni Association's Career View is a program that gives GSB students the opportunity to shadow alumni at work, gain direct industry experience, and explore a new career and/or geographic location.

What is Career View

Career View provides a one-week opportunity for students to shadow and/or work on a project with a GSB alum at his/her place of employment. The program is targeted towards "career-switchers" and students who wish to experience a new country, culture, or work environment.

When Does it Take Place?

While the program traditionally takes place during the GSB Spring Break, many of the Global Study Trips (a requirement in the New Curriculum) now occur during that timeframe. As a result, we will not be managing a large-scale program but hope to connect students with alumni, based on opportunity and interest. We are working closely with our colleagues in the Career Management Center to identify the students that are interested in participating. Please keep in mind that this opportunity does not need to take place within the Spring Break week (March 23-27, 2009), we are open to making this connection work whenever it is convenient for the alums and students involved.

Students will participate on a strictly volunteer basis and are responsible for their own transportation, room, and board during their visit (although a willingness to subsidize or sponsor a student is definitely appreciated). Alumni hosts tailor activities to fit their own needs, vision, and style. A typical week may include working on specific projects, attending meetings, sitting in on brainstorming sessions, and performing specific/relevant research.

Description of Previous Projects

We had more than 25 opportunities for the March 2008 spring break.
