As a recent grad, what can I do to keep my
@gsb.stanford.edu
address from closing?
Your student account closes 120 days after graduation; however, if you create a GSB Alumni Webmail account prior to that date, new mail sent to your student address will be set to forward to your GSB Alumni Webmail address by the GSB IT team. When your @gsb.stanford.edu student account closes, you will no longer be able to send mail from that address. If you do not have an alumni account when your student account closes, email sent to your @gsb.stanford.edu address will NOT forward and cannot be recovered. You may activate your alumni email address when you register for your alumni username.
How does the alumni email service work?
GSB Alumni Webmail is a free service provided to GSB alumni through the Stanford Business School Alumni Association website. You must register for alumni access to activate your Webmail account. You may use your alumni email address as a web-based email account and access your email from anywhere in the world via an internet connection. You may also set your address to forward to another account. Once registered, use the "Check Email" button to read or send email or change your settings, including your forwarding email address.
How do I update my email forwarding address?
Use the "Check Email" button to log in to your Alumni Webmail box and choose "Forward to Email" under "Folder Services" in the left-hand menu. To keep your mailbox from exceeding its capacity, we recommend that you do not keep a local copy of your forwarded email.
Can I forward my alumni email to more than one address?
Yes, you may set up more than one forwarding email address. Use the "Check Email" button to log in to Webmail and go to Services, Forward to Email in the left-hand menu.
What is the storage limit for messages in Webmail?
Your GSB Alumni Webmail account comes with 25 MB storage to maintain your email messages and contacts. To keep your mailbox from exceeding its capacity, we recommend that you set your mail to forward to a larger box and do not keep a local copy of your forwarded email.
I received an unsolicited email (spam). How do I prevent
receiving another email from the sender?
While the message is open, use the "Create Personal Spam Filter" button next to the sender's name to create a personal filter for this sender. Email from this sender will be deleted or moved to your Junk Mail folder. Use the "Check Email" button to log in to Webmail and go to Services, Spam Filtering in the left-hand menu to choose your Personal Spam Filter options.
Can I check my email using POP email clients such as Outlook or Eudora?
Not at this time. We plan to offer this service for an additional fee in the future.
Can I purchase additional storage?
Not at this time. We plan to offer additional storage in the future.
When I forward a message, why doesn't the message appear
in the text box?
The original message is sent as an attachment.
When will messages in my Trash folder be deleted?
Messages in the trash folder will be deleted every three days, however, you can set your preferences to delete email in the trash folder when you log out. Use the "Check Email" button to log in to Webmail and go to Preferences, Settings in the left-hand menu and select the radio button "Empty trash on logout."
Why don't messages I send show in my Sent folder?
Messages you send out are not automatically saved in your Sent folder. To use this feature use the "Check Email" button to log in to Webmail and go to Preferences, Settings in the left-hand menu and select the radio button "Save copy of outgoing mail in Sent folder." You can also view messages you've sent during the last seven days by checking your Services, History folder.
Why do messages I send and receive display the incorrect time?
Your time zone may need to be changed. Use the "Check Email" button to log in to Webmail and go to Preferences, Settings in the left-hand menu and select the appropriate time zone using the "Default time zone" drop-down menu. Note: U.S. time zones are listed under "America."
When I log in to Webmail, I go directly to the log out screen.
How can I fix this?
Make sure your browser is set to accept cookies and the date and time on your computer are set correctly. Instead of accessing Webmail from a bookmark, try logging in directly to http://alumni.gsb.stanford.edu
